December Boxycharm Review

It was bound to happen eventually. The past year of Boxycharm has been absolutely amazing, but this month-well. You’ll see. Let’s continue.

**

The December theme is Glitz and Glam:

Also, there appear to be 3 box variations this month, I got the one without the color corrector thankfully. First item:

**

Crown Brush Deluxe Blush Brush:

It’s a nice, dense brush-and I’ll never turn down a makeup brush. Retails for 12$.

**

Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Lightweight Lipstick:

Swatched:

Its a metallic peachy pink-the formula feels thick AF, not lightweight at all. It’s a creamy formula, doesn’t dry down completely matte but does have staying power. The doe foot applicator is kind of…hard I guess? It’s just not very luxurious or plush like some I have.

I’ve been hearing a bit about this brand lately, it seems to be hit or miss. I will say the packaging is beautiful and it’s heavy-the actual lipstick tube isn’t light, it feels heavy and luxurious. This lippie retails for 24$.

**

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

Obviously a great, high end mascara-I’m not a fan of this type of wand.

The bristles are plastic, not really a brush, per se? I’m torn between giving this away because I literally have 20 mascaras, or giving it a try because out of those 20 I only like 2 or 3. I’m a tough customer when it comes to mascara because my lashes are practically non existent. Anyway, this retails for 23$.

**

Real Her Blush Kit:

Hate it. The blushes are weird, chalky, and a trio of no. They’re almost baked-and you know how some baked blushes have that weird coating on top? Yeah. I was hopeful though, because the Real Her products I’ve received in the past sucked, and this looked promising in the photos. Uh uh. The first shade is called Fearless-it’s a weird raspberry sherbet-y color with glitter-dry and chalky. The middle shade, Limitless, is an orangey salmon, dry and chalky as well, and the last one is Unstoppable which is more of a bronzer. And…wait for it..dry and chalky. While I appreciate the message of the brand, the quality is just not there.

**

Swatched:

It’s more pigmented than I thought it would be, and the packaging is cute, honestly-but it’s just….. anyway, it retails for 32$. Wow.

**

Beauty Basics Bronze Essentials

I’m not a fan of swirled product all in one pan-I like everything to have its own place, own pan, and be separate. But I’m weird like that.

**

Swatched:

It’s…..okaaaay. I wasn’t like, oh what a feeling jumping for joy. It’s fairly pigmented, but chances are it’s not a keeper. Retail price is 39.95$ which has to be a joke. It’s literally .10 grams of product and the packaging is plain and basic AF.

**

So there it is-December’s BoxyCharm. Do you see what I mean about meh? The palettes were a massive disappointment, the lippie might be salvageable….just..meh. The value of the box is 130.95$ which is pretty impressive, I must say, and we’re all allowed to slip once in a while, but January is time to redeem yourself, BC.

Talk soon, Lovelies

  1. I’m so sad that the blush trio isn’t good quality. I was really looking forward to it! I really like the mascara bristles. My mom bought that Tarte mascara while back and I was a big fan. I prefer my lashes to be more separated than anything though. I hope I get the Makeup Geek lip product instead of the Pretty Vulgar one… I’m not sure how I feel about pink metallic in the winter. Hopefully January box will be better!

  2. I wore the lippie to the store today. It’s cold as balls and windy, so the last thing my lips needed was a drying liquid lip. It was comfortable, wasn’t sticky and best of all it didn’t make that awful taste in my mouth that lip gloss does. It actually look’s a tad darker on the lips, so it didn’t look out of season. I was hoping I didn’t look like Kentucky’s mom from Pump rules, but it was all good.
When I saw the prices for that bronzer and blush trio, I was side eyeing them real hard. I’m with you Allie, I don’t care for multi-colors in one pan. Honestly, I have an Essence bronzer that smells like a day at the beach and is the perfect shade for my pale skin. I reach for that every day over any other bronzer I have.
I ordered the Jouer mini lip topper set the end of November, they finally sent an email on Monday saying that shipping label had been printed, and it came today. I only played with one so far, it smells like vanilla cupcakes. I didn’t know whether to wear it or lick it, smells divine. They also sent me ALL of their foundation shades in sample sizes. I appreciate that so much, because I’ve ordered so many foundations that I had to give away.

    • I wore it yesterday too!!! I was pleasantly surprised because it seemed REALLY thick, but like you said it lasted and was really comfortable. I was not disappointed. I’ve recently heard a lot of good things about Essence, so going to try them out. And jouer-jouer is on my list too. That’s fantastic about the foundations, and hearing your description of the lip topper has pushed me to order one. Let me know how they wear and how you like it?

  3. oh the box looks nice – i have decided after a year to sack all mine off. I was getting 6 a month (greedy) and realised that actually most of the stuff I got was crap and I would rather get giddy in Debenhams (dept store) every month instead.

I REALLY want the IT Cosmetics CC cream – YT is full of reviews some good and some bad – does anyone have it and is it any good? I can’t swatch it as we can only get it from QVC and in the UK we can’t return cosmetics unless it is still sealed.

  4. I got my email, but no box yet. Was hoping for something special, but chalky rejects and a mascara it may be. I have hope for the lippie. On a lighter note, I’ve been liking the Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion and the pur palette.

    • Those are both standouts for me as well! The Tarte mascara is pretty amazing, I have to say, and the Pretty Vulgar lipstick was way better than I thought it would be. It’s lightweight and comfortable, and pretty long wearing for a non matte lipstick. I was pleasantly surprised.

  5. I’ll put this here. My first Birchbox. I had an email asking how I liked it. Whaaa? Didn’t check mail yet today, and there it is. Pretty box, and it smells nice. An eyelash curler (yay!), mascara, a Benefit pearl primer, a hair detangler, Clark’s deep moisture mask, Oribe after beach spray. Very happy with it. I love the sample sizes, and $10 off coupon.

  6. We have a winner, the Clark’s Botanicals deep moisture mask, but damn it’s expensive. My skin feels wonderful after fifteen minutes. It smells great and my skin is like a baby’s bottom. Full size is $72.

  7. I finally got my box. Tarte mascara, the Realher blush, I’m not hating on it yet, the Beaute basics bronzer, Vintage highlighter, and again, nude lippie from Makeup Geek. ffs. I always get the damn nudes.

    • Aw man. How do you like the vintage highlighter? I got that in a box earlier in the year and I thought it was such s pretty highlighter. Not cheap either. It wasnt like, blinding to the heavens? But it’s a pretty highlight. I thought, anyway. 😜

      • I’ve been trying everything. I prefer the Stila Huge over the Tarte mascara. The Vintage highlighter is just enough, not over the top. The bronzer and blush is meh, but with a soft brush okay. Only tried a little of the Benefit primer from the Birchbox. The Makeup Geek is a huge no. Is starting to think I have champagne tastes on a beer budget.
