It’s been a super lazy day, guys-sorry! Has anyone had problems commenting or “liking” posts? On a few occasions I’ve had a few messages saying there was trouble with comments or whatever. Any time that happens, just as a heads up, it’s most likely a WordPress issue or something with an individual setting. I am in no way shape or form technologically knowledgeable enough to break, fix, or troubleshoot. I’m lucky I figured out how to post a photo, to be honest with y’all. It’s definitely not intentional if it happens. My advice would be to log out and back in to WordPress or log out then back in to your browser, or switch browsers.

So with that, I hope everyone had a good day-has everyone taken down their xmas decs? Mine came down yesterday, it took me way longer than usual but it’s done. Anything exciting for the weekend?

  1. Don’t ever apologize! You’ve been through a lot and totally deserve a day to relax!

    I had a lazy day, too. In fact, I just showered and changed into clean PJ’s. I didn’t even get dressed today and it was glorious! With the holidays, work, and normal mom & wife duties I haven’t had an entire day with no commitments in far too long. I did pack away the the last of Christmas decor and got caught up on laundry. Time got away from me and I forgot about starting dinner so we’re eating later than I’d prefer, but it’s all good!

    I haven’t had any login or posting problems nor would I know how to fix. I’d agree and say that logging out and logging back in sounds like the best bet!

    I hope you’re feeling better. Pneumonia takes quite a while to fully recover from. Take it easy as much as possible. A healty Allie is much more important than any number of blog entries, seriously! We’re not goin’ anywhere! 💛

    Sorry everyone … for my long posts; I guess I never understood that I can have so much to say when surrounded by such wonderful people in a nurturing and positive environment!

    Kudos to Allie! Get well soon. I am trying real hard to get over the allergic reaction I have been experiencing with medicine prescribed.

  3. Hope you’re on the mend. My tree is up until my son returns from active duty later this month. Hubbys birthday today made him homemade chicken pot pie tonight. Good day for oven , cold and snowy here in Ohio. Enjoying all the recaps

    • Happy to hear your son is on his way home. I can only imagine how anxious you are to see him. I decided to wait until this weekend to take down our tree. I love the lights and how it looks when I turn off the lamps. Plus I hate trying to get it back into the box and get stuck doing it by myself every year. I wish we’d get some pretty snow here. It’s cold and windy and ugly in T-Town and a pretty snow would be nice. So would some snow cream. Yum! My daughter cleaned out some of her makeup stash and I ended up with tarte blush (i think it’s blush lol) and tarteist lash paint (that is fancy talk for mascara right?). I also got NYC concealer, matte bronzer and lipstick that is called Snow White but is actually dark red and totally not my style but I may decide to doll up soon. The gals at Dollar General will love it! Lol! It will go nicely with my hoodie/leggings/Uggs look that I plan on rocking until spring. Keeping it classy ya’ll!!

      • Umm…what is this snow cream you speak of? Is there actually something foodish to do with this stuff??? We’ve already had 3 substantial hits here. Is snow cream what you do with all that milk and bread?

      • Wanted to add that the sacrifices made by the families back home are so often overlooked. Being the only parent at home with young ones is not easy. Hope you have lots of support at home.

      • Are ya’ll telling me that you’ve never had snow cream? I’m not a native Tulsan. I’m a transplant from a small county way off the interstate in Middle Tennessee. Not including my parents, myself and my brother almost my entire family is right there where they’ve been my entire life. My parents were high school sweethearts so I’ve got maternal and paternal peeps all over our small town. This is year was only the second time in my life to not be there for Christmas. Wah! I need to call my mom to get the snow cream recipe for ya’ll. So simple yet so good. Aw this making me miss my family. We got a little dusting of snow last night but you need the fat wet snow for snow cream. I seriously have a tear coming down my cheek. I’m so extra lol

      • I can’t believe that all you folks don’t know about snow cream. Most of us from the south who are frozen precipitationally challenged have enjoyed the sweet taste of snow cream. Any one of us a certain age knows that you don’t use the first snow of the year because it cleans out the radiation in the air lol (dating myself). But the next one is ripe for making the delicious treat consumed after playing in what passes for a snow storm.

        If you know that the snow is coming, you leave a big bowl outside to catch the snow. If not you pick a clean area with no yellow snow. Scoop up about 10 cups of snow. In bowl with snow combine 1 and 1/2 cups of liquid (sweetened condensed milk or a combination of that and reg. milk or even soy) and about 1/2 cup of sugar (honey could be substituted) and mix. I also put in 1tsp. of vanilla extract. Stir with a wooden spoon. I like chocolate so I usually add Hershey chocolate syrup to mine. You could probably add any flavoring you want. Plus if you want peach, cut one up and throw it in. If the mixture is thick just add a little more milk of your choice. If it is too runny add more snow. Not sweet enough, add sugar. Well you get the picture. When you are done. Cover and place in the freezer for a short time. You really can’t screw this up and can tweak the recipe to included your taste. Hope this helps and if it doesn’t turn out right what do I know. I am just a southerner and you know we don’t get much snow down here lol.

      • Hannah!! You have me the greatest gift without even meaning to and I’m teary again! It’s the hormones but I’m emotional because I am almost certain, just gotta run it by my mom, that you use the same recipe my grandmother used, my mother’s mother, and she’s looked everywhere for the recipe card that we always cry over because it’s in her handwriting. I asked her to help me remember it so I could share it and we weren’t getting it; something was off. The recipes online were too fancy and not everyone can handle the condensed milk so those recipes were not as plentiful and wrong. Like “use mixer” kind of wrong. Mom was horrified lol. I think this is it!! Mom will love this. We call all brands of con. milk “carnation milk” and love it but if you haven’t had it in anything before it is so rich and the sugar you add to that just makes it too sweet for some, not anyone in my family but some. I cannot understand the idea of anything being too sweet but I know some of ya’ll don’t like sweet tea so to each his own. But Hannah if you only knew how much we needed this right now. I’m actually going to call my cousin right now because she’ll flip out when I tell her what I got because, well, maybe one day I’ll tell you exactly what makes it so special. Wow. God’s wink. That’s what we call things like this in our family. Thank you!!!

      • tulsateacher, I am so glad that I was able to give the recipe for my snow cream and it was especially helpful for you. Yes it may make it too sweet with the 1/2 cup of sugar but when I make sweet tea it has 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar in it lmbo. So like you when I want sweet tea I mean sweet tea. I hope that you will someday tell me the whole story about you and your grandmother’s recipe. It sounds very sweet and close to your heart. I sure hope you enjoy your snow cream and think about your grandmother and me while you are eating it. Hugs sweetie from an old southern woman who got her recipe from her own grandmother. Wonder if my grandmother and your grandmother are sitting up in heaven discussing this as well? Stranger things have happened.

  4. No technical difficulties here. But I agree with the log out/log back in advice. Took my tree down Sunday. I put it up thanksgiving weekend and after New Years I take it down. Subzero temps in Minnesota so we are trying to stay indoors as much as we can!

      • Tben, of course the teachers are more excited. They have had to deal with kids who have just gotten back from a 2 week vacation and haven’t readjusted to being back in school. I am sure the afternoon free from that sounds great. Plus the fact that it already counts as a day in school and won’t have to be made up for at the end of the year.

    Most of my Christmas stuff is put away. A few things fall under “winter” décor 🙂
    & they are still visible.
    We are waiting for snow tonite but it might be too cold. I would love to see an inch
    or three or maybe 8. hahaha We will see. :0~

  7. I pretty much have to be forced to take the tree down. I dug my heels in for years about going back to a real tree – partly because I’m on a time limit with a real one. I’d leave it up all year and decorate for each season if it wouldn’t drive my husband nutty. I sprayed the tree this year with snow, so with the clear lights – it’s just way too pretty to take down yet.

  8. Hey y’all from North Carolina. The tree isn’t down yet. Was going to today but we got our first snow forecast for up to 6 inches of snow. The whole state is in a snow panic lol. Everybody thinks the brine they put down on the road isn’t to help melt the snow but like the yellow brick road that leads to the Emerald City, it leads us directly to the grocery store. By now they have all gone out to get the fixings for their “MILK SANDWICHES” lol. It never made sense why people rush to get milk and bread with no mention of cereal, sandwich meats, or even snacks. What else can you do with milk and bread?

    People here are afraid they will get snowed in and since we don’t get a lot of snow, they have no clue how to drive in it. Once more than 15 flakes stick to the road every idiot with a 4 wheel drive vehicle and also the ones without decide to go somewhere. Within 10 minutes it starts to look like a demolition derby. Fifteen cars in the ditch later, it’s being reported on the nightly news with the warning to stay home if you can. Yep should have shown that warning at the 12 o’clock news lmbo.

    I sent my husband out for some sandwich meat, chips, and dog food. I will be staying home snug in my bed just in case we actually do get snow this weekend. Thanks Allison for giving me something fun to do as long as the power holds out besides watching people run into mailboxes and take down the Christmas tree lol.

    • I stock up on canned foods every year. When I was a little kid, I got snowed in at a friend’s house for an entire week, most of it without electricity. As a result, I am incredibly paranoid.
      We actually do need more milk (my 4 kids go through a LOT of it) but I doubt there will be any left. Grrrrr.
      Tree is still up, but will be taken down this weekend. We keep it up after today on purpose. My husband is Mexican, and Mexican Catholics have a wonderful tradition including a special dessert, a pan de rosca, and hot chocolate. We will be doing that tonight.
      I am still super sick, so I am pausing my Whole30. Plus, I refuse to ignore the rosca and Abuelita chocolate (crap, we really will need more milk!!!).

      • Hey, hey, hey Allison. Just because we might not see snow but once every 2 years and anything over an inch is a “big snow” is no reason to make fun of us. Now running out to buy up all the milk and bread in the whole state for an inch and a half of snow that will be gone by the next morning if not by night time is. At least have a good reason for your ridicule. LMBO.

      • After the earthquake in 94 when we didn’t have power or anything the local drug store opened. They walked 3-4 people at a time through with flashlights. You could pick 3 items and they actually took a check if needed without pre approval. Every single person walked out with big jugs of alcohol and smiles on their face. We keep a big bottle of tequila in our earthquake box. Medicinal purposes, great antiseptic, lol. Of course it needs to be rotated out with a new bottle about once a year.

  9. Tree is down but only because I had to go to ATL for work and that forced me to be ambitious. Everyone in ATL is obsessed with the potential snow and ice, understandably so, given the city has little to no equipment to handle. I flew out of there yesterday afternoon right into an Ohio rush hour mini snowstorm….yah. All is well. And “lazy is underrated”. We need downtime to gain perspective on the direction of our lives (that is my justification to fight the guilt from being idle 😊). Glad to hear people are on the mend. Stay safe everyone.   10. I wish I could remember which of the lovelies posted about getting a new mattress topper, sheets, etc, for her and hubby’s Christmas. I read that post and, honestly, wasn’t aware that such things were made (shoulda been..duh). Anyway, I talked my sweetie into using the money he won on a Christmas scratch ticket for a new mattress topper. He doesn’t sleep well and some of my gifts to him had focused on that: melatonin, sleepy time tea. We’re supposed to receive it sometime today and, in the three years we’ve been together, I’ve never seen him so excited. He’s been checking the tracking every day…lol. So…a whole hearted thank you to whoever posted that. Yet one more positive thing to come from this place!

    • Have a memory foam topper on old mattress,sure makes a difference like new again! My husband uses the melatonin gummy bears too seems like they help him to get drowsy.

    • It was Hannah and her husband that got all that good stuff. We got a really heavy memory foam topper for our bed years ago when we needed a new mattress, and it really did buy us time to replace the mattress. When I say heavy, I mean it took 2 adult men to maneuver that thing around. I wish I would have known what brand it was, I got it at a little surplus/closeout place, so it was just in plastic – no box or paperwork. And, I only paid $60 for it – it was such a great deal.

    • Romen, yes it was the hubs and me who gave each other the memory foam mattress topper, sheets, pillows, pillowcases and comforters for Christmas. Have been enjoying them ever since. Has improved both of our sleeping. Hope it does the same for y’all. Sometimes the most practical gifts turn into romantic ones because when you are rested you wake up happy lol. You are more than welcome.

  11. Tree was down last weekend. The local Boy Scout Troop does a fundraiser every year and picks up trees for a $10 donation. I usually give them $20… it’s for a good cause. They need to go to camp!

    California (at least the north) is gearing up for a forecasted 10 days straight of rain and snow (in the mountains). We’re in pretty good shape… far enough from the river in case there’s flooding. But the backyard in all it’s mess will probably flood a bit. Ugh… poor dogs having to go out and go potty.

    Plans for tomorrow include my running group’s season kickoff pancake breakfast at 8. Ugh I don’t want to be out in the rain running!!!

    Does anyone on here watch The Royals? I NEED someone to talk to about it. If you don’t, you all should! It’s fabulous!!

  12. Have been away a few days myself. I caught that awful cough/flu. I still sound like I’m hacking up a lung but starting to feel better. The tile was laid in the middle of all of this and new washer and dryer delivered. I couldn’t move but was able to do 6 loads in one day. Every towel, sheet, blanket, and sniffle rag has been through the sanitize cycle. Love this thing!

    Received two beauty boxes. The Walmart which was a great purchase. A full size Cover Girl mascara and the best hand lotion. Have a sample of L’Occitane (sp?) and the new Curel runs circles around it. It’s the best by far. The 12 days box arrived today and I had time to ooh and ah but really need to go through everything. It was exactly as pictured. I feel like crap but while down, doing face masks and different face creams. Fun stuff. Allure sent me my e-mail today, box is on the way. Birchbox and Target shipping mid-month. Tons of stuff to play with. It’s fun because I can share with my son’s girlfriend. Thank god she has brains, loves my son, and make-up. Take care all –

  13. Lol…thanks for the snow cream recipe hannah! I’ve been sitting on my hands to avoid googling, really wanted it to come from here instead. It absolutely makes sense that it is a southern treat–snow being so rare and sort of a treat in itself that southerners want to consume it. I think most new englanders would rather torch it. The first thing I wondered was if it was reasonably safe to eat…lol The northeast is (or at least used to be) known for having highly concentrated acid rain soooo acid snow? I know, I know, I wouldn’t be eating that much of it but it made me laugh when hannah said never use the first snow. Recently, we were told to let our water run in the morning to clear out any lead that might be sitting in the pipes! Still I might try it even if my SO says it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard. He had me laughing so hard. He’s fun-handicapped.

    • Romen, it’s not like drugs. You won’t get hooked the first time you try it or maybe you will. Geez I sound like a dealer lmbo. But one time isn’t going to kill you either lol. It’s worth giving it a shot believe me. I would be making some myself right now if the weatherman not been wrong as usual. What was supposed to be 4-8 inches of beautiful snow turned into about 2 inches of sleet. Nasty but it’s supposed to be in the 70’s by Friday. If you don’t like our weather, just hang around a couple of days. It will change. We will still shut down the state until Tuesday. Southerners don’t understand why people with all that snow wouldn’t take advantage of it for snow cream. That’s one of the good thing about getting stuck inside…eating good stuff. Don’t tell your SO you are doing it. Just hand him a bowl. He may see the light

  14. I know this is over-sharing but I’m having trouble taking down our tree; I’m trying to keep the New Year at bay I think. I went out and bought a really expensive artificial tree my son picked out and bought him everything thing he asked for. It was worth it to see his face on Christmas morning. This was the first holiday we spent together since my husband left and decided he wanted a divorce. It was pretty challenging for both of us. I’m turning 53 this week and my goal is to be more positive. It’s been a struggle to think of all these changes as a good things rather than being so anxious and frightened by them. I always was a special snowflake-LoL-It’s a good thing but I also take everything to heart. Before The Daily Tea on the other site, I never thought of sharing anything personal about myself online but when other people would write about their struggles there, I would think about how strong they were and it made me think that I could do this too. Plus everyone was so kind. When I try to tell friends or family what’s going on they get all uncomfortable or upset so I usually keep things to myself. Online nobody gets upset over what I write; people can choose to read it or find it annoying and just move along. I like that. I look forward to coming here and reading about everyone-so many sweet and funny people-it takes my mind off my day. It’s amazing how much Allie has accomplished in so little time. Ok, I’m done-this was too long! (P.S I highly recommend “The OA” which is the most incredible series on Neflix. I binge watched it this weekend. Loved it!!)

      • I hesitated hitting the reply button after I wrote my comment but I was having a really hard day and I just needed to vent or I felt like I was going to scream. It’s only been four months been since this happened and it’s still very raw and confusing for me and my son too. I really appreciate your listening and very kind reply.

I’m sure your marriage meant the world to you but now you can discover what *you* mean. I turned 52 on New Year’s eve…no matter how old you might believe that is, it’s the best age to be. You’ll see – the best is yet to come!

Sounds like to me that you are doing a pretty good job of getting yourself together and even if you aren’t there all the way, this is a great place to come to be amongst friendly people. Glad that you chose to say your piece. Don’t hesitate to continue. I comment all the time and I think people still like me. They talk back to me anyway lol.

  16. This is interesting, at least for me it is. I saw a follow button at the bottom of this page and I clicked on it. Word press told me that all new comments will appear in reader. I have no clue if it’s just for this thread or for the whole blog. I’m just hoping that it will be easier to read comments in the reader than trying to read comments sent to my email. For some reason I have email problems.

    And on an unrelated note, if anyone is thinking of buying a smart tv, don’t do it. I want my stupid tv back! Smart tvs have something called a hub and it keeps stopping from connecting to the Internet so I can’t watch Netflix or Hulu. I Googled the problem and basically, I have to reset the TV back to factory settings and reprogram it every time it happens. It appears to be a common problem with Samsung. I almost bought a Vizio until the salesman mentioned that they don’t come with remotes. You have to use your cell phone in place of the remote. No way, no how!

    Today I read an article about how smart tvs aren’t secure and can let hackers get into your computer. The article suggested to reset the TV (once again) and not hook up to the Internet to it and just use roku or something similiar instead. I’m going to do that as soon as I buy another roku. Ok, end of rant.
