Hair, Hair, Everywhere

I’m going to do a foundation blog tomorrow and a book one-but I just took a shower (yay me-a blogger who showers) and got to thinking about my hate/hate relationship with conditioner. My hair is dry (very dyed blond) and I can’t find a good moisturizing conditioner that isn’t heavy and doesn’t leave my hair waxy feeling.

Right now I have Tresemme Keratin conditioniner, and I put some argan oil in after I towel dry, but the Tresemme is starting to build up. Sigh. I don’t use any other product on my hair (my husband is a different story, but he does have pretty great hair when he’s done) but damn, it’s still dry. I’m going back and forth on posting another picture of myself, I don’t want to be annoying or obnoxious but I’m kinda sick of looking at the same picture. Aw heck, here:

I’ve got a lot of fun planned; more makeup posts, recaps, gossip, book talk, and some cooking/ recipe talk. Maybe Christmas cookie recipes/chat since ”tis the season and all.

So thanks for sticking with me-I think we’ve made a pretty perfect place here.

Talk soon, Lovelies

  1. Love the green? eyes.
My hair is also dry but it is very fine. Little or no body. I like Pantene products.
Argan oil is pretty much all I use after washing before blow dry, or sometimes I also use a gel for volume. I don’t like any product that leaves residue.
Your hair looks great. : )

  2. Allie-
I am a blonde (well a natural blonde who has gotten much darker in the last fifteen years). Anyway, I do get my hair colored and I also have dry, thick hair. I found a great conditioner that my hair girl suggested. It’s called “Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner”. My hair has never been in better condition than it is now. I’ve been using it for about a year.
It’s more spendy, but I think it’s worth it.
I think you can maybe get it at Sephora. I get it from my hair salon.

  3. I loved Biolage spray, fortifying leave-in conditioner. I would spray it while my hair was still wet and comb it through. Then I’d dry with a blow dryer and my hair would be nice and fluffy.

  4. Hair and makeup? Housewives?? Books and recipes?!?!

    It’s SO comfy here.

My hair has become more frizzy since lightening it as well. It was darker previously, but my “sparkles” were growing in way too fast… don’t you just love how they glisten in they sunlight?😂 I lightened it up in hopes my roots wouldn’t look so harsh and I could go more than a month without touching them up. I’m pretty sure this is what the kids refer to as a first world problem.

  5. Allie is a KNOCKOUT! I like Biolage Minky! The deep conditioning balm. I used to use it all the time until I found my absolute favorite- Pureology, there’s five different kinds but the best is the HYDRATING shampoo and conditioner in the purple bottles. You will fall in love. Allie, you are too gorgeous for words! (Hair Caviar by Alterna is good too. You can buy all of the ones I mentioned at Ulta or online)

    • I love the Hair Caviar. I rec’d as a gift. It works great. That’s my favorite. My other go to is It’s a 10. Both the conditioner in the shower and I buy their leave-in. You just need a pea size. The tube has lasted a year.
maybe try using a clarifying shampoo once a week. Gets rid of all that build up so the conditioner can work again. I use Neutrogena once a week.

  6. My guy recommended Goldwell conditioner for color-treated hair, but also washing with Redken Hair Cleansing Cream shampoo just before coloring to get rid of all the residue product. Works for me!

  7. Another good one if you can find a deal on it – like on Rue La La or Gilt or Haute Look/Nordie Rack — is everything Kerastase. That’s my Hg. You will love it. Their leave in oil (the gold bottle one) is universal. I have fine straight hair but a lot of it. Other than that– Alterna Caviar, Biolage, and if I am in the drugstore – Pantene. Because they have something for every type of hair. 🙂 Argan oil is the bomb!

  8. I’m natural blonde, but after I had a massive heart attack, it started to darken and lost any kind of body. So, I color it now, it’s the only way I can get it to do anything. I use Purple (of all freakin colors) shampoo and conditioner. My hair is fine, so I am very light with the conditioner, a dime to nickel size, massage it in and rinse – rinse – rinse. When my hair was very long, I would get build up because I would use too much conditioner and not get it all rinsed out.
I go to Sally and get their ION purple shampoo and conditioner, it’s deep dark purple. If you’re a bottle blonde, purple is your friend.

  9. I go to a Goldwell salon and tend to use their products on my lightened hair. I use the kerasilk shampoo and conditioner. Also, they have a system called bondpro that they use when lightening hair which actually reduces the damage that occurs during the lightening process. I also like Bumble and Bumble hairdressers oil and their leave in spray/heat protectant that I can’t remember the name of…Oh, and I’ve tried the Olaplex conditioning treatment and liked that as well.

And now I’ll want to try everything you all mentioned…because, product junkie. Always on the search for the next best thing! Can’t wait for the foundation post:-)

  10. I really like Redken shampoo/conditioner. I like Paul Mitchell Smooth Serum for my dry/dull looking ends. Unfortunately, I have to feel splurgey to keep up with buying either. I bleached my (very very black) ends about six months ago, never finished the job, and went back to dark. Dry/Dull/Wouldn’t hold color.
THE HOLY GRAIL for processing hair- OLAPLEX. The stuff is the absolute bomb, if you get your hair done at a salon ask them to use it while processing. They make an Olaplex 3 formula, which is for at home use once a week. My hair finally started to hold color again after using it about two months. It’s expensive, but you don’t need much. I leave mine overnight, usually. It’s not just a conditioner but actually repairs the hair follicle. Google it, miracle product. I processed for HOURS and my hair still felt great and not like cotton candy.

  11. Allie, since you love experimenting with make-up, I want you to try an arch in your brow. I used to have brows like yours, then one day when I was getting them waxed, the lady asked me to let her arch them. I LOVED it! Now I arch them all the time with brow pencil and plucking. 🙂

      • My brows are real, but I have a light brown pencil that I will use to color a little in the summertime because they get too light in the summer. I get my eyebrows done once a month but if it’s a few days before my appointment and I have somewhere nice to go, then I will pluck a little and do some tweaking- but I haaaate it too. Torture.

  12. Ladies – I have had a 45 year battle with the dreaded bed head. No matter what I try I wake up looking like Russel brand at the height of his back combing. My hair is to my arse as I am scared of hairdressers ( cow frazzled it and it all snapped off) my hair is fine and thin and the climate in my neck of the woods is ‘damp’ so constant frizz. Conditioners cheap and expensive make it look even thinner – please please help. My dream is to one day get up and not have a hour long battle.

    • You may not like my advice. But I promise if you get it trimmed even four or five inches, it will look much thicker. My hair is so thick I have to have it thinned out every other month and I always wanted thin hair. They say we always want what we don’t have! I have friends with naturally curly hair and if they straighten it in humid weather, it will frizz. My question to you is this, is your hair straight or curly or wavy? If your hair is naturally wavy or curly, the only way not to have it friz is to wash it and scrunch it and dry it with a dryer. Do not try straightening it if you live in humid climate. If you have straight, thin hair and it is that long, you have to bun it up at night or you will wake up with bed head. Anyone would. You may also try braiding it at night and sleeping with the braids in. Spritz it with a water bottle before going to bed. When you wake up, take out the braids and it will be wavy and gorgeous. Do NOT BRUSH IT IN THE MORNING, Use a pick or comb or your fingers. That should help , Let us know. You can always get a leave-in, anti-friz spray too, but you cant just get the spray and do nothing else. You have to bun your hair up at night or braid it. (and please try a little trim. just a few inches. it will look thicker)

      • Thank you! It’s totally straight, doesn’t hold a style no matter what. My sister does cut it every few months – takes me by force lol. Thanks for the advice. I’ll try the bun and spritzing

  13. Okay it’s totally straight. If you bun it up, DON’T spritz it with the water bottle. Only spritz it when you braid it. But, I know someone with very long hair who braids it occasionally at night and when she takes out those braids in the morning and puts a little shine oil on her fingers and runs them through her hair, it looks gorgeous.

  14. @mousecara you can also run a flat iron through it for a few minutes in the morning. That will take most of the frizz out, but you have to have put product in after, a shine spray or you can use the non-spray that you pour on your hand and run through with your fingers. ‘Its a 10’ is a brand that someone mentioned, they make a leave-in, anti-frizz sheen for 8.00 and you can get it in walgreens, wal mart, or target. good luck!

  15. I broke an arm in June and had to have it pinned. I had hair below my shoulders, and couldn’t get it in a ponytail or pin it up. Got it cut off the day before surgery in a pixie bob. I am a short hair convert. I used to be a red head but it went white. Mr. Softie said I looked old. I color it a light brown and do my own highlights. It still looks reddish. My experience with home red hair color was a night mare. Got a color that did not exist in nature. Went to a store where they didn’t know me and bought a box of color oops. I like the purology conditioner and use a schwartzkopf purple shampoo.
